Child & Adolescent Psychology and Assessments

Children and Adolescents can benefit from therapy if they are experiencing prolonged difficulties in several areas of their social, emotional, and intellectual development.  Our psychologists are specifically trained to work with young people and their parents using several different evidenced based modalities including play therapy, cognitive behaviour based therapy for children, and acceptance and commitment therapy based approaches for children.

treatment process for young people

When working with children and adolescents, our team of psychologists will work with their parents as appropriate depending on the young person's age. Typically, our psychologists will work closer with parents for younger children, and will provide updates as necessary for older teenagers.  This approach is to remain consistent with the developmental needs of the young person.

treatment modalities for young people

Our team of psychologists will work with young people in a modality that suits the presenting issue/s.  This means that treatment is often a tailored approach that meets their needs.  The modalities of treatment include:

  • Play therapy

  • Parenting support

  • Solution focused therapy

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy based approach for young people

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy based approach for young people including mindfulness based approaches

  • Social skills training

assessment for young people and adults

Our team conduct psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. In the case of lung people, assessments are usually required for educational purposes and/or for cognitive purposes to provide information about a young person’s strengths and weaknesses so that they can achieve the best outcomes at school.  In the case of adults, assessments are usually required to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.

All of our assessments include a semi-structured clinical interview, several testing sessions, a feedback session, and a full written report with treatment recommendations and detailed intervention hand outs with a step by step guide for implementation.

Specifically, our clinicians can conduct assessments for the following purposes:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Learning and/or Intellectual Difficulties for children, adolescents, and adults.

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

  • Other school and/or cognitive difficulties

  • Personality Assessments
