Emma has a keen interest in the bidirectional relationship between mental health and communication abilities. She is passionate about using evidence-based approaches to promote functional communication skills in people of all ages with mental health difficulties, to empower them to participate in all aspects of life, including social, academic and career-related affairs.

Emma’s clinical experience comprises working with children, adolescents, and adults across various aspects of communication and swallowing, including speech production, language, literacy, voice, fluency, alternative communication, and swallowing education and recommendations. Her particular interest lies in developing the language, literacy, and social communication skills of primary school aged children to enable them to engage in learning and develop meaningful friendships with peers. Emma provides consistent person-centred care by developing intervention plans in collaboration with clients and their families, and supporting them in accepting and decision-making about their communication and swallowing disorders.
